Jane Baldwin, Kettwiger Turnverein 1870 e.V., 27 Nov 11

Pole dancing is a fun way to exercise, burns body fat, strengthens muscles and improves flexibility and co-ordination. It's not stripping or lap dancing, it's more a chance for your body to move in a way it responds well to and "yes" that can include some very sassy moves.

Classes are available for all levels, including complete beginners. Minimum age is 18 (there is no upper limit) and classes are for women only.

If you are interested in joining my new class in Germany with the Kettwiger Turnverein from January 2011 please contact Horst Littmann, Sportwart des KTV 1870, 02054 87 097 64 Kettwiger Turnverein 1870 e.V.

Details in German are on the following two links;

Frequently asked questions
What do I wear?
Trainers, dance shoes or barefoot (best option). Leggings or jogging bottoms with shorts underneath (the shorter the better!), fitted T-shirt & jumper (weather dependant).

As the classes progress the more skin showing the better as skin provides grip.

Do I need to bring anything?
Water and a mat if possible (this varies depending on the venue).

Am I fit enough?!
Most people are, and as the lessons progress so will your strength and flexibility, however please also read the following carefully;

For most people physical activity should not pose a problem. However, please be aware pole dancing involves holding your own body weight (statically or dynamically / head higher than feet or head lower than feet) in a variety of ways e.g. with hand(s), leg(s), knee(s) & feet, but not necessarily all at the same time, it could just be one! You may also sustain some bruising following classes.

If you are in any doubt regarding your fitness / health in relation to this class please consult your doctor first.

Please also let your teacher know before your first class (or if subsequently diagnosed / occurs) if any of the following are applicable to you:

  • suffer from heart disease, high blood pressure or any other cardio vascular problem
  • troubled by chest pains or tightness in the chest when carrying out anything with minimum effort
  • suffer from any lung condition e.g. asthma, bronchitis
  • suffer from back or spinal pains
  • have a medical condition which could interfere with your participation in exercise e.g. damaged knee or ankle joint or a recent operation
  • prone to headaches, fainting or dizziness
  • extremely under or over weight
  • pregnant
  • a complete new comer to exercise

Is there anything I should or shouldn't do before class?
Best to remove jewellery, and not eat a large meal, and definitely no alcohol or moisturiser on hands or body.

I'd like to pole dance, but I live in the UK?
No problem! I can highly recommend the following school, as I trained with Emma Simmonds Pole Performers.
